Water sample closes Beach 3 temporarily

On Friday morning, May 25, 2012, the Club received notice that the fecal coliform test result from sampling on Wednesday, May 23rd yielded a count of 2,400. The maximum permissible fecal coliform count is 200. This test, the first of the bathing season, was performed by Garden State Laboratories, Inc., and results have been reported to the Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services.

Bathing regulations permit beaches to continue in operation as long as a re-test is immediately ordered, and that the results of the re-test are satisfactory. However, since this testing result so far exceeded the permissible level, the Club has decided, in the interest of swimming safety, not to open Beach 3 until a satisfactory test result is received.

Arrangements have been made for re-testing by Garden State Laboratories on Friday, May 25th. Test results will not be available until Saturday afternoon, May 26th.

Members should call the Water Safety Hotline at 973-764-7797 after 12 pm on Saturday, May 26th for the results of the re-test (if available), and for information regarding the re-opening of the beach.

Beach 1 on Lake 1 will be open throughout the Memorial Day weekend. If Beach 3 does not open, Beach 2 at the Clubhouse will be open on Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday.

This beach closure has been reported to the Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services.
