Beach 1 and Lake 1 closed to swimming – Saturday, July 14, Sunday, July 15, and Monday, July 16

A copper sulfate treatment in Lake 1 for algae by Allied Biological, performed early Friday morning, has resulted in an exceptional circumstance where the copper did not dissolve but bound to the algae, and remains suspended in the water column. The Club’s consultants – Allied Biological and Princeton Hydro – have never experienced this effect in their collective 50 years of lake management.

After an inspection early Saturday morning with Allied Biological, it has been decided to CLOSE Beach 1 and Lake 1 to swimming in the interest of bathing/swimming safety.

Additional investigations and laboratory analyses are underway to determine what has occurred, why it has occurred, and whether the bluish globules pose any danger to swimmers’ health.

Please check the Club’s website in the afternoon on Monday, July 16th, or call the Water Safety Hotline at 973-764-7797 for an update Monday afternoon. Swim lessons for your children, scheduled for Beach 1 on Monday, July 16, will take place at the normal times at Beach 2 at the Clubhouse.
