Beach 1 temporarily closed to swimming on Monday, July 9 and Tuesday, July 10

At approximately 12:45 pm on Monday, July 9, a report was received by our lifeguards that an unidentified individual had a toilet accident in the swim area.

In the interest of bathing/swimming safety, Beach 1 was immediately closed until satisfactory fecal coliform test results are received from Garden State Laboratories. Three water samples are taken at the beach by Garden State. Samples were obtained at approximately 12:15 pm, and at our request Garden State returned to the beach to obtain additional samples at approximately 1:30 pm.

Test results take at least 24 hours to obtain, and will not be available until Tuesday evening. We anticipate satisfactory results and are planning to reopen Beach 1 Wednesday morning at 9:30 am. In the meantime, all swim lessons scheduled on Tuesday, July 10 at Beach 1 have been moved to Beach 2 at the Clubhouse.

If satisfactory test results are not received, additional sampling will take place on Wednesday (with results due Thursday evening), the beach will remain closed until Friday, and swim lessons will continue at Beach 2 on Wednesday and Thursday. Please call the Water Safety Hotline at 973-764-7797 on Wednesday morning for updated information.
