Water sample closes Beach 5 temporarily

On Friday morning, August 17, 2012, the Club received notice that the fecal coliform test result from sampling on Wednesday, August 15 yielded a count of 2,000. The maximum permissible fecal coliform count is 200. This test was performed by Garden State Laboratories, Inc.

Bathing regulations permit beaches to continue in operation as long as a re-test is immediately ordered, and that the results of the re-test are satisfactory. However, since this testing result so far exceeded the permissible level, the Club has decided, in the interest of swimming safety, not to open Beach 5 until a satisfactory test result is received.

Arrangements have been made for re-testing by Garden State Laboratories on Friday, August 17. Test results will not be available until late Saturday evening, August 18.

Members should call the Water Safety Hotline at 973-764-7797 after 10 am on Sunday, August 19 for the results of the re-test (if available), and for information regarding the re-opening of the beach.

All other Club beaches remain open.

This beach closure has been reported to the Department of Environmental and Public Health Services.
