Come Out and Play

The beauty of Highland Lakes is all around us. Not just in the crisp air we breathe or the natural settings we look out on every day but also in the community we share. Since it was first established, Highland Lakes has been known for its volunteer spirit and never-ending activity program. As a summer community, activities began as soon as school let out and continued on through Labor Day when most everyone would tearfully pack up and go “back home.” Now that we are predominantly a year-round community, some of the work and school routine has overshadowed this carefree spirit, but activities and committees still abound…even in snowy weather; and at every turn, our community offers an opportunity to make new friends and share common goals. Just look at what is happening in Highland Lakes this week.

The week started off with an early morning exercise class that takes place in the clubhouse at 8:00 am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, helping those who have vowed that this year they WILL slim down. As usual the Bridge group met on Monday afternoon and the Ceramics group met on Monday evening as did the Knitters group. Parents and kids will enjoy getting together for Play Group on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10:00. At 7:00 this (and most) Friday night(s) you’ll find a group of men playing poker at the Clubhouse too.

In addition to these activities, regular committee and board meetings are scheduled. This week the Planning Committee will meet on Tuesday night at 7:00, and on Thursday night the Ecology Committee will meet at 7:00 followed by the Fishing Committee at 8:00. The board workshop is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:00 pm. It is at this meeting that the board discusses matters that concern the community and often deliberates on issues that will come up for a vote at the board meeting which occurs on the third Friday of each month. Check our Calendar regularly and take a break from work…come out and play.
