On Friday morning, June 28, 2013, the Club received notice that the fecal coliform test result from sampling at Beach 6 on Indian Lake on Wednesday, June 26 yielded a count of 280. The maximum permissible fecal coliform count at bathing beaches, pools, etc. is 200. This test was performed by Garden State Laboratories, Inc.
Bathing regulations permit beaches to continue in operation as long as a re-test is immediately ordered, and that the results of the re-test are satisfactory. However, Club policy recognizes that other beaches are available and, in the interest of swimming safety, beaches are closed until satisfactory test results are received. Therefore, Beach 6 will not open on Saturday, June 29.
Re-testing by Garden State Laboratories was scheduled for Friday, June 28. Test results will not be available until late Saturday evening, June 29 or Sunday, June 30.
Members should call the Water Safety Hotline at 973-764-7797 after 10 am on Sunday, June 30 for information regarding the re-opening of Beach 6. All other Club beaches will be open this weekend.
This beach closure has been reported to the Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services.
