On Thursday morning, July 11, 2013, the Club received notice that the fecal coliform test result from sampling at Beach 4 on the Main Lake performed by Garden State Laboratories, Inc. yielded a count of 280. Results of testing at Beach 7 yielded a count of 3,900. The maximum permissible fecal coliform count at bathing beaches, pools, etc. is 200.
Bathing regulations permit beaches to continue in operation as long as a retest is immediately ordered, and that the results of the retest are satisfactory. However, Club policy recognizes that other beaches are available and, in the interest of swimming safety, beaches are closed until satisfactory test results are received. Therefore, Beaches 4 and 7 were closed to swimming on Thursday, July 11 until further notice.
Retesting by Garden State Laboratories will take place on Thursday, July 11, and additional sampling has been authorized. Test results will not be available until late Friday evening, July 12 or Saturday, July 13.
Members should call the Water Safety Hotline at 973-764-7797 after 10 am on Saturday, July 13 for information regarding the re-opening of these beaches. All other Club beaches will be open this weekend.
This beach closure has been reported to the Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services.
