Boat removal from boat racks on eastern side of Highland Lakes by October 18, please
Inspections and repairs where necessary of boat racks will take place this fall. The program requires the removal of all boats stored on boat racks and Club property on the eastern side of Highland Lakes by October 18, 2015. Once the racks and areas are clear, maintenance and landscaping can be performed late in the fall and in the early spring.
The Boat and Dock committee, working with maintenance staff, will be modifying certain racks to accommodate kayaks and constructing additional racks for kayaks. Beach 3, an especially crowded area, will see more efficient use of space next spring.
Some boats appear abandoned or otherwise unused. These boats are taking up valuable space that could be better used by members interested in boating. Furthermore, clearing the racks of abandoned/unused boats avoids the expense of adding additional boat racks, and taking over more land. Lastly, it eliminates the excuse that members have that there is “no rack space and storing my boat on the ground is the only choice I have.”
All areas on the east side of the main lake, and areas on Indian Lake (East Highland Lake) and Lake 4 (Upper East Highland Lake) are affected by this notice:
(East Removal)
- Canistear Road Boat Launch on Indian Lake
- Beach 5 on Lake 4, Dam on Cherry Ridge Road
- Beach 3 at- Lookover Lane – Lakeside Drive East
- Beach 4 – Lakeside Drive East north of Island Drive
- Freeway at Shadow Lane and Lakeside Drive East
- Freeway on Lakeside Drive East between Beach 4 and Shadow Lane
- Freeway at end of Lakeside Drive East and Island Road
- Freeway at Lakeside Drive East and Birch Road
All boats stored at these locations must be removed by October 18. Any boat that can not be identified through either a Club permit, NJ registration or hull identification number will be declared abandoned and disposed of in accordance with New Jersey law.
Rule 24 (C.) of the Club’s Rules and Regulations addresses storage after October 15: STORAGE ON DOCKS and RACKS AFTER OCTOBER 15: All boats must be removed from Club docks not later than October 15 of each year. In alternating years, all boats must be removed from boat racks by October 15, as determined by the Boat and Dock committee and as published in the Newsette. Boats stored after October 15 in violation of this Rule will be removed to storage immediately.
Rule 24 (F.) provides for special assessments and penalties associated with failure to remove your boat.
An inventory of boats stored at these locations has been underway by Highland Lakes Security. We require boat removal from Club properties in alternating years – east side and west side, ensuring that all boats are removed from Club property at least once every two years.
Troy Bowers, Security Manager, has been appointed as the contact person for this program. Please feel free to contact him with any questions you may have at 973-764-4266.
