Investigation Closes Area Gas Station

The gas station at the intersection of Canistear Road, Breakneck Road, and Wawayanda Road has been closed until further notice as contamination from possibly leaking underground gasoline storage tanks is being investigated. Benzene is a major contaminant from leaking gasoline tanks and may be present in neighboring wells.

Permission has been sought from property owners by Geo-Enviro Consulting and Remediation LLC, to test wells located within five hundred feet of the gas station. Geo-Enviro is working closely with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and an outside consultant to manage this investigation.

Club representatives have been in touch with Geo-Enviro, NJDEP, and adjoining property owners and will be monitoring this situation closely. No properties owned by Highland Lakes Country Club and Community Association, including its lakes, are expected to be affected.
