Ecology Committee Meeting with Solitude Lake Management – Thursday, May 16, 2019 7 pm

Bob Schindler, Regional Director of Solitude Lake Management, will be attending the Ecology Committee on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 7 pm in the Lake Room to discuss the management of the Club’s lakes and the results of the 2018 lake management program. All Club members are invited to attend.

Solitude performs inspections of lake conditions beginning in April, conducts treatments for weed and algae control throughout the spring and summer months, analyses water samples for algae, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and pH, and makes recommendations for treatments based on its findings. Solitude personnel alert Club management of conditions requiring close monitoring and its reports are shared with Princeton Hydro, the Club’s water quality independent consultant. Close coordination occurs among Club management, Solitude, and Princeton Hydro personnel, with the goal of preserving native lake vegetation where possible, and avoiding the application of copper sulfate for algae control as much as possible. All herbicide and algaecide applications are conducted under annual permits issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection which expire September 30 of each year.
