Beach Openings Delayed by Order of the Sussex County Division of Health

The Sussex County Division of Health issued the following guidance on April 10, 2020:

No recreational bathing facilities (bathing beaches, pools, hot tubs, spas, spray parks, wading pools, waterparks, etc.) are approved to open at this time, and all facilities are to remain closed until further notice.

According to the Order, “Recreational bathing facilities are considered locations where large numbers of individuals may gather in congregation when physical proximity to other individuals may be dangerous and individuals may encounter common surfaces.” It is clear that until further direction is received from the Division, together with firm guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, the preseason opening of the Club’s beaches for swimming will be delayed.

Closure of the Club’s beaches to prevent social gatherings has not been ordered, at least yet, though members are instructed that the Club may close access to its beach areas completely if the necessary social distancing is not achieved. This concern must be mentioned based on what was observed at Beach 1 on Tuesday, April 7 when the weather was warm and families migrated to the beach.

Be safe – Be well,

Jack McLaughlin
General Manager
