Lake 3 (Indian Lake) Algae Treatment

Update on Lake Conditions as of 6/8/22

Lake 3 was treated with an application of Sonar AS in mid-May to suppress growth of the invasive plant species Eurasian Watermilfoil.  As these plants gradually decompose, they contribute nutrients to the water which, in turn, can accelerate the growth of algae.

The Club and its lake management consultants have been monitoring conditions including the increased algae on Lake 3. Treatment of the algae throughout the lake is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 13th.

Lake 1: Plant growth is reported to be more dense than in May, but is not problematic at this time. The plant-like algae Chara were observed. This algae can be beneficial to fish habitat and consumes nutrients that would otherwise be used by less desirable plants and algae.

Lake 2: Sparse-density curlyleaf pondweed are observed in the south end of the lake. These plants are expected to die-back as water temps continue to increase. Occasional small mats of filamentous algae were observed in the northeast cover; these are not problematic at this time. Some cyanobacteria were present and will continue to be observed for any increase in density.

Lake 4: No problematic plant populations were observed. Some cyanobacteria were present and will continue to be observed for any increase in density. On Thursday, June 9th, Lake 4 was treated with EutroSORB WC, a new nutrient-reduction product which is said to be environmentally safe and more effective than the Alum treatments used previously.

Lake 5: Trace amounts of Eurasian Watermilfoil and Chara algae were observed east of the beach and spotty mats of filamentous algae were observed in the western cove. These conditions are not considered to be problematic at this time.
