Hiking
An enthusiastic group of hikers meets at the Clubhouse parking lot every third Sunday at 10:30 am. If you’re capable of hiking at least 5 miles at a steady, moderate pace, please join us.
The group either walks from the Clubhouse or drives a short distance to a designated starting point. It’s important for each hiker to bring water and lunch, and to wear appropriate hiking shoes. Most hikes average of 4-5 hours, which includes waiting, lunch break, and driving time. Well-behaved dogs, which must be on a leash whenever we walk on a roadway, are welcome. In the case of inclement weather, including snow or ice on the ground, hikes are cancelled. However, with sufficient snow on the ground and clear skies, some of us will go on the trails with cross-country skis and/or snowshoes.
We hike every 2nd or 3rd Sunday of the month. We plan to hike every 2nd Sunday, but if the weather does not agree, we will hike on the 3rd Sunday. We leave from the clubhouse at 10:30 AM. We usually meet afterward at a local restaurant or a hiker’s home for a potluck dinner.
Some hikes are short and on level terrain. Others are longer and may be on steeper ground. We usually hike from 4 hours to 6 hours depending on length and difficulty of the walk. Don’t forget to bring water, good hiking shoes and lunch.
We try to publish what we’re planning in the Newsette just prior to the selected date, but anyone interested in river outings can leave a message for us to call if we don’t meet the deadline for publication prior to this activity. For more information, contact Christine Billack at 973-764-1458.
