2025 Annual Meeting

Update: 8/17/2025

Meet the Candidates – page 8

Every August, Highland Lakes holds its Annual Meeting, a long-standing tradition and a cornerstone of our community’s governance. This important event brings members together to hear from Club leadership, stay informed on key issues, and participate in the democratic process that helps shape our community.

The Annual Meeting follows a consistent format outlined in Article IV of our bylaws, which are always available on the Members’ Portal. During the meeting, members hear reports from the Club president, treasurer, and general counsel, and then have the opportunity to raise questions or comments during the public comment section. Elections for trustees and officers also take place, ensuring that Active Members in good standing have a say in who represents them.

So why make time for a two-hour meeting on a Sunday? Because this is your opportunity to get the facts directly from those doing the work – not through rumors or secondhand information. You’ll hear directly from those involved in the daily operations of the Club and gain insight into their responsibilities, decisions, and priorities. Seeing and hearing from your Voting Board – who are all volunteers and your neighbors – adds transparency and builds understanding about the challenges and commitments involved in running our community.

Trustee elections are held on a rotating basis, with each trustee serving a three-year term. Whether or not your section is voting this year, attending the meeting is a chance to see how the process works, meet the candidates, and prepare for future participation. Member input, whether through voting or during the public comment period, is an essential part of keeping Highland Lakes responsive to the needs of its members.

As one longtime member put it, “It’s my civic duty – and my chance to have a voice in the community.” Voting is both a privilege and a responsibility. Let’s take it seriously.

And it’s not just about the formalities. The Annual Meeting is also one of our largest gatherings of the year, a time to connect with your neighbors, share ideas, raise concerns, or simply listen. Whether you’re new to Highland Lakes or a decades-long member, the Annual Meeting is a meaningful way to engage, learn, and strengthen your connection to the community.
