Trash Removal Options and Resources
Summer trash service in Highland Lakes looks a little different than it once did. In prior years, the Club provided a 10‑week seasonal trash pickup as part of annual dues. That service is no longer included, and homeowners now arrange trash removal individually during the summer months.
This change wasn’t made lightly, and we know it affected some members more than others. The seasonal program cost the Club just shy of $100,000 each year, and there was no way to track how many households were actually using the service. Without clear usage data, the Board determined it was more responsible to discontinue the program and redirect those funds toward other community needs.
Most residents live here full time and already have year‑round trash service in place. For members who need seasonal or newly established service, the Board researched local providers and identified four viable options that service our area. These are shared below as a resource.
Additional disposal and recycling options are also available in our county. HIghland Lakes residents may use the Sussex County transfer station (https://scmua.org/), and Vernon Township offers municipal recycling services (https://www.vernontwp.com/index.php/services/recycling).
